How many words do you know?
An online study

Thank you for your interest in our study! Your participation will help us understand differences in vocabulary learning and executive function in monolinguals, bilinguals, and participants with and without ADHD (Attention Deficit and/or Hyperactivity Disorder). In this online study, you will be asked to match words with pictures, press a keyboard key in the same direction as an arrow on the screen, and to complete puzzles and some questionnaires about yourself and your language experience. On average, the study takes between 1h and 1h45 to complete. You will be thanked for your participation with 2 participant pool credits (Concordia University Psychology Department Participant Pool).

To be eligible, YOU:

• Must be either: monolingual (speaking only English or French), OR bilingual (speaking English & French)

• Must have NO or LOW knowledge of any language other than English & French (speaking & understanding)

• Must live in Canada

• Must be between 18 and 34 years of age

• Must be attending University, College, or CÉGEP, or have previously completed at least 2 years

• May have Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD or ADHD), OR not

  • If applicable and you feel comfortable doing so, we ask that you not take your ADD/ADHD medication on the day of the study until after the study is completed. You will be reminded to take your medication at the end of the experiment. You may also start the study an hour or two before the time at which you would normally take your medication, and take it at the usual time

• Must not have any conditions which may affect your eyesight, hearing, language, or cognitive functioning

Merci de votre intérêt pour notre étude! Votre participation nous aidera à comprendre les différences dans l'apprentissage du vocabulaire et des fonctions exécutives chez les unilingues, les bilingues et les participants avec et sans TDAH (trouble du déficit de l’attention avec ou sans hyperactivité). Dans cette étude en ligne, il vous sera demandé de faire correspondre des mots à des images, appuyer une touche du clavier dans le même sens qu'une flèche à l'écran, faire des puzzles et remplir des questionnaires sur vous et vos expériences linguistiques. En moyenne, l’étude prend entre 1h et 1h45. Vous serez remercié pour votre participation avec 2 crédits de participation (Participant Pool du département de psychologie de l'Université Concordia).

Pour être éligible, VOUS:

• Devez être: unilingue (parlant uniquement l'anglais ou le français), OU bilingue (parlant anglais et français)

• Devez avoir aucune connaissance, ou une connaissance BASSE de toute langue autre que le français & l’anglais (parler et comprendre)

• Devez vivre au Canada

• Devez être âgé entre 18 et 34 ans

• Devez être inscrit à l’université, au collège, ou au CÉGEP, ou y avoir auparavant complété au moins 2 ans

• Pouvez avoir un trouble de déficit de l’attention/hyperactivité (TDA ou TDAH), OU non

  • Si applicable et si vous vous sentez à l'aise de le faire, nous vous demandons de ne pas prendre votre médicament pour le TDA/TDAH le jour de l'étude jusqu’à ce que celle-ci soit terminée. Il vous sera rappelé de prendre votre médicament à la fin de l'étude. Vous pouvez également commencer l'étude une heure ou deux avant l'heure à laquelle vous prendriez normalement votre médicament et le prendre à l'heure habituelle

• Devez ne pas avoir de conditions pouvant affecter votre vue, audition, langage ou fonctions cognitives
