Concordia Infant Research Lab (Dr. Krista Byers-Heinlein)

The Concordia Infant Research Lab, directed by Dr. Krista Byers-Heinlein, is seeking a full-time (part-time considered for an exceptional candidate) research coordinator/research assistant to join our dynamic and friendly lab. The lab is housed in the Psychology Department of Concordia University in Montreal, on the beautiful Loyola Campus. We study the development of bilingual infants and preschoolers across language, cognitive, and social domains. Our methods are diverse and include eye-tracking, LENA home recordings, direct observations of parents and children, and analysis of large-scale datasets.

Job Description: The person in this role will be a pillar of our research team and instrumental to the effective functioning of the lab. We are looking for someone with a broad set of skills, who can easily pivot from technical data-oriented work to people-oriented work. If you have a psychology background, are a critical thinker, and love finding creative solutions to problems, this role could be a good fit.

Activities include training and coordinating lab members; scheduling personnel and participants; managing databases; updating the lab website; managing lab accounts on a wide range of platforms; continually improving lab systems and processes; maintaining computer software/hardware and lab supplies; assisting with study design, data collection, data curation, and data analysis; assisting with grant and manuscript preparation; scientific outreach; and preparing expense reports and other administrative paperwork. A high degree of autonomy and initiative is expected. The person in this role will have opportunities for authorship on conference presentations and peer-reviewed articles.

This position involves both in-person and remote work.

Requirements:

-        BA/BSC or MA/MSc in Psychology, Linguistics, Cognitive Science, or a related field

-        Experience conducting research (research with humans, particularly with infants and children, is an asset) or other experience involving highly technical, data-oriented work and ethical considerations (e.g., administrative work experience in a clinical setting)

-        Excellent organizational and communication skills

-        Strong computational, statistical, and technical skills (knowledge of R is an asset)

-        Commitment to open and collaborative science practices

-        Knowledge of French preferred

Start date negotiable between June 1st and August 1st 2022, with a preference for an earlier start date.  Must be eligible to work in Canada. Preference is given to candidates who can commit to 2+ years in this position.

Compensation and benefits:

The successful candidate will be compensated in accordance with the collective agreement of the Concordia Association of Research Employees. Salary $41,805 – $57,894 per year, dependent on skills and experience. Health benefits, pension plan and generous vacation allowance provided by Concordia university.
